No one should attempt to intimidate potential petition signers
While I strongly support the right of same-sex couples to marry, I am alarmed by the effort by KnowThyNeighbor.org to intimidate potential signers of Massachusetts Initiative Petition # 05-02, The Constitutional Amendment to Define Marriage, by attempting to "out" them by posting their names and addresses on a web site.The proposed amendment reads:
When recognizing marriages entered into after the adoption of this amendment by the people, the Commonwealth and its political subdivisions shall define marriage only as the union of one man and one woman.
The organization's Mission Statement page says
By posting the names and addresses of the 65,825+ signers, KnowThyNeighbor.org is supporting the Democratic Process by providing the public with direct access to information that they are entitled to see and that is relevant to this controversial topic.This organization would be much better served by directing its efforts towards legitimate persuasion.
