NYT: Matters of Faith Find a New Prominence on Campus

An article in the New York Times says
Across the country, on secular campuses as varied as Colgate University, the University of Wisconsin and the University of California, Berkeley, chaplains, professors and administrators say students are drawn to religion and spirituality with more fervor than at any time they can remember.
I wonder how much of a concerted effort Unitarian Universalists make (either the Unitarian Universalist Association or individual congregations) make to let college students know that UUism is an option.

No matter how much it is, I'm thinking it's not nearly enough. Inquisitive college students should be a natural fit with Unitarian Universalists.

Oh boy, is it an uphill climb. Campus ministry, I mean.
Local congregations are sometimes wonderful at reaching out to provide money and support for such efforts, but a lot of them don't. They reason that "kids like to sleep in on Sundays" - -forgetting that there are other days and hours of the week whereby they might invite local college students into their community. Barring that, we should at least be supporting the presence of UU chaplains or student-led groups on campuses.
I really think the overall attitude among us, though, is "Well, I didn't discover UUism until I was in my 30's -- they'll find us then."

Witness our ongoing ghettoization of "Young Adults" -- 18 to THIRTY FIVE???
